John 14:16-18 “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans”

1 Peter 1:1 “To God’s elect, exiles scattered throughout the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia”

1 Peter 5:1 “To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder and a witness of Christ’s sufferings who also will share in the glory to be revealed: Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.”

There is a big difference between being consumed with yourself and being committed to others:

  • One life is driven by fear, insecurity and comparison
  • The other is driven by calling, purpose and love

“Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them”

If your eyes are on yourself, your comfort, and your needs:

  • It will be difficult to help others be their best
  • Because, you come first

“not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve”

“not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock”

A good shepherd:

  • doesn’t walk behind the sheep
  • They walk in front of the sheep

This is what spiritual maturity looks like:

  • It’s when your life stops being about you
  • And it starts becoming about others
