Forgiveness – Accepting God’s Grace

Psalm 103:8- “The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
    slow to anger, abounding in love.
He will not always accuse,
    nor will he harbor his anger forever;
10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve
    or repay us according to our iniquities.
11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
    so great is his love for those who fear him;
12 as far as the east is from the west,
    so far has he removed our transgressions from us.”

2 Corinthians 5:17Therfore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

When you accept Christ, you’re not just patched up or slightly improved—you’re a new creation.

The Greek word for “new” here, kainos:

  • It means new in nature, transformed, fundamentally different.

Guilt – Feeling remorse for making a mistake

Shame – Feeling like something is wrong with you

When we refuse to forgive ourselves, we’re essentially saying God’s work on the cross wasn’t enough.

Forgiving ourselves isn’t about:

  • Excusing our sin
  • It’s about agreeing with God’s verdict.

2 Peter 1:3-9 “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.”

God has given us everything we need for a godly life

So, how do we forgive ourselves in light of God’s forgiveness?

  1. Accept God’s Forgiveness Fully

1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness”

How much is all?

  1. Replace Lies with Truth
  2. Walk in Your New Identity

1 Corinthians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens me”
