Death Does Not Have the Final Say

Romans 6:23 “The wage’s of sin is death.”

John 11:25 “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

Two verses in Romans tell us of our predicament:

Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God”

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life.”

The devil created a weapon that was undefeated – Sin and death.

The plan:

  • Jesus, God Himself, comes to be a man.
  • Lives a sin free life.
  • Gets crucified on the cross.

Two verses on what happened next after crucifixion:

1 Peter 3:18-19  “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit. 19 After being made alive, he went and made proclamation to the imprisoned spirits”

Revelations 1:18 “I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.”

A thread of commonality through world religions:

  • I can earn it on my own.
  • I can be good enough.
  • I’m capable of setting myself free.

As we surrender our chains of sin and death to him:

  • He forgives us.
  • He frees us from our sinful bondages.
  • He puts a seal of the Holy Spirit on us

Ephesians 1:13-14 “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory”

Some I am statements of Jesus:

  • I am the way, the truth the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
  • I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die
  • I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved
  • I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
  • I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life
