1 Peter 3 Relationships

1 Peter 3:1-4 “Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”

WE ALL HAVE SIN DWELLING IN US:

  • Sin separates.
  • Sin is prideful.
  • Sin isolates.
  • Sin is selfish.

Key = Treat your spouse better than your friends treat their spouse

1 Peter 3:7 “Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.”

  • Our relationship with each other directly affects our relationship with God.

Listen to the last part of this section Peter is communicating with the church.

1 Peter 3:7 “Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.”

Most of us get caught up on the phrase weaker:

  • In Greek it truly means – less strength.
  • Not less important

We get caught up in this phrase weaker and miss the most important part of the whole section.

SO THAT NOTHING WILL HINDER YOUR PRAYERS.

Did you know that a lack of consideration, submission and respect will hinder your prayers?

When we are out of alignment with our relationship with our spouse – We are out of our alignment in our relationship with God and our prayers are weaker.

Prayer is us in relationship with God.
