Get Free Stay Free Series – Truth Will Set You Free

1 Timothy 6:6-10 “But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”
John 8:31-32 “To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, ‘If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’”
People have loved this phrase, but use it outside of its original context.

NOTICE – Jesus does not remove the traps of the enemy
John 8:33-36 “They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?” Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
The number one thing that the devil is good at doing. – Lying
John 8:44 “You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
This is what we focused on during our end of service last week:
Some examples of lies we can believe:
- Hurt others more than they hurt you.
- God wants me to be happy
- I can’t forgive that person
- God doesn’t really care
- Follow your feelings
- They will never change
- I can be a Christian without being part of a local church
- I‘ll serve at church when I have time and it is convenient
- I’ll tithe when I make more money/ I don’t need to tithe
- If I don’t tell them about Jesus God will send someone else to do it
- All I do is displease God
- I am unlovable
- Lying is okay as long as it protects you or others from painful truth
Deuteronomy 32:46-47 “Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may command your children to obey carefully all the words of this law. They are not just idle words for you—they are your life.”
