Resurrection Sunday – Thief on the Cross
Jesus faced six trials from 2:00AM to 7:30AM:
- Annas – retired high priest
- Caiaphas and Sanhedrin – Current High priest
- Pontus Pilate (Roman Appointed Governor)
- Herod (Roman appointed ruler of Galilee region)
- Back to Pontus Pilate (He thought Jesus was innocent)
- The crowd of people to release Jesus or Barabbas
Matthew 27:38 “Then two robbers were crucified with him, one on the right and another on the left.”
John 19:19-21 “Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read: jesus of nazareth, the king of the jews. Many of the Jews read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the sign was written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek. The chief priests of the Jews protested to Pilate, “Do not write ‘The King of the Jews,’ but that this man claimed to be king of the Jews.”
How do you treat other people when they hurt you?
Luke 23:34 “Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”
Luke 23:39 “One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”
Luke 23:40-42 “But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”
Luke 23:42 “Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
Here is the thing for us:
- It is never too late.
- You are always important.
Luke 23:43 “Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
