Onward and upward

God never consults our past to determine our future.

Philippians 3:13-14  “Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Four parts for this Scripture passage:

  1. I haven’t achieved it yet…

Getting saved is just the beginning

  1. He places his past in proper position:

Some things in our past are like anchors that prevent us from moving forward

  1. Aiming for a better future:

Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead

We can learn from our past, but we need to be aiming for the future!

Are you trusting God and pressing forward?

  1. Putting forth every effort to obtain the goal:

Philippians 3:14 “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Following Jesus has a cost:

Smart Goal Setting

S – Specific

M – Measurable

A – Achievable

R – Relevant

T – Time

What is God’s goal for me for this next year?
