The Last Days of Jesus – Saturday
John 19:42 “Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation and since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.”
Exodus 20:8-11 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.”
A Sabbath’s Day Journey was 2000 Cubits or 0.6miles
Matthew 27:62-66 “The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate. “Sir,” they said, “we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’ So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first.”
“Take a guard,” Pilate answered. “Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how.” So they went and made the tomb secure by putting a seal on the stone and posting the guard.”
It was likely that there were 4 soldiers always guarding the tomb (16 total)
Luke 23:55-56 “The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it. Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.”
What was Jesus doing on this Saturday?

1 Peter 3:19-22 “After being made alive, he went and made proclamation to the imprisoned spirits— 20 to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, 21 and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who has gone into heaven and is at God’s right hand—with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him.”
The disciples, who were resting during the sabbath, did not realize that God was doing his best work
Proverbs 15:3 “The eyes of the LORD are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good”
Hebrews 4:13 “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.”
Isaiah 14:24 “The Lord of hosts has sworn: ‘As I have planned, so shall it be, and as I have purposed, so shall it stand”
Proverbs 19:21 “Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand”
It is safe to assume that we should never worry about the times of seeming silence, because God has a plan, a purpose, and a path!
