God’s Heart For The Lost
There are two things that every one and every church needs to engage in:
- Evangelism
- Discipleship making
Matthew 9:37-38 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Pray the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send workers into his harvest.”
Romans 10:14-15 “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
2 Corinthians 5:20 “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us”
I have said this numerous times over the years:
- God can do whatever He wants.
- But He chooses to work through us.
Proverbs 11:30 “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life,
and the one who wins souls is wise.”
Matthew 28: 19-20 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
We really don’t have any excuse as to why we don’t share our faith:
- It comes down to fear.
- It comes down to what we care about.
- It comes down to priorities.
- It comes down to doing it our way or God’s way.
Luke 15:8-10 “Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
- Ring this bell, three times well,
- Its toll to clearly say, my treatment’s done,
- This course is run and I am on my way.
Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes”
1 Timothy 2:1-4 “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.”
Matthew 9:35-37 “Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Pray the Lord of the harvest therefore, to send out workers into His harvest.”
Mark 6:33-34 “But many who saw them leaving recognized them and ran on foot from all the towns and got there ahead of them. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things.”
2 Timothy 4:1-5 “In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.”
Quick overview of 2 Timothy 4:1-5:
- Be prepared to correct and encourage people with God’s truth.
- Do it with great patience and careful instruction.
- Keep your head in all situations.
- Do the work of an evangelist.
- Use your gifts to serve your church and do God’s ministry.
