The Beginning

John 13:34-35 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

1 John 3:16-18 “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no compassion on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”

The most common theory that is taught about the beginning is the “Big Bang”

Big Bang Theory:

  • Belief that all the mass and energy of the universe was squeezed into a particle smaller than an atom.
  • You can put around a million atoms on the tip of a needle.

First Law of Thermodynamics:

  • Energy cannot be either created or destroyed, but merely converted from one form to another.

Another popular theory is that the universe is eternal.

An Eternal universe also defies the laws of physics:

Kalam Cosmological Argument:

  • Whatever begins to exist had a cause – Something caused it to exist.
  • The universe began to exist – The universe had a starting point.
  • Thus, the universe had a cause – Something had to start it.

Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”

Isaiah 55:8-9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.

As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

Psalms 147:4 “He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by their name.”

Matthew 10:30 “And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.”

We have a God who does not miss a single detail:

  • He knows all the galaxies 100 to 200 billion galaxies
  • He knows all the stars – possibly 100 million stars per galaxy

Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
