1 Peter 4
1 Peter 4:1 “Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin.”
What was Jesus’ attitude?
How did Jesus suffer?
Hebrews 4:15 “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.”
Four types of suffering that we may face:
- God’s correcting efforts on us.
- Suffering for our own poor choices.
- Suffering due to the world’s persecution
- Our own denying of the sinful nature
Hebrews 12:5-6 “And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says,
“My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline,
and do not lose heart when he rebukes you,
6 because the Lord disciplines the one he loves,
and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.”
1 Peter 4:2 “As a result, they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God.”
Some Spiritual disciplines that can be painful:
- Fasting
- Reading Bible
- Tithing
- Serving
1 Peter 4:1 “Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin.”
This is hard for us to understand.
