Why The World Hates Jesus

Why The World Hates Jesus

Why The World Hates Jesus
Why the World Hates Jesus
This is how many young people think of Christianity:
Judgmental
Hypocritical
Anti-homosexual
Too political
Insensitive
Boring
In John 15:18 Jesus told us: “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.”

Some definitions of hate:
• To feel extreme enmity for
• To loathe or despise
• A feeling towards somebody considered an enemy
John 15:19
If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you
WE DO NOT BELONG TO THE WORLD
• God has called us to be a part of his Kingdom
• God’s Kingdom values are different than the world kingdom values
Philippians 3:20
But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ
Ephesians 2:12-13
12 remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ
1. We are called to be different
The world would love Jesus If He had…
• Kept going around a feeding people
• Kept Healing People
• Taught wise life lessons
2. Jesus confronted our sins
John 3:19-21
19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.
In order to have their sins exposed they need to come to the conclusion that God is right and in control
Relativism
• What is right for you is not necessarily right for me
• We each get to choose our own way
• It is not okay for you to tell another person that their way is wrong
John 14:6
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
For something to be true
• Be true in every culture
• Be true in every time period
• Be true in every circumstance
John 8:12
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”.
Matthew 5:14
“You are the light of the world”
John 3:19-20
Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed
JESUS CONFRONTS SIN
• JESUS ISN’T AFRAID TO CONFRONT SIN
• JESUS CAN BE PRETTY DRASTIC IN CONFRONTING SIN
John 2:13-16
13 When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. 15 So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. 16 To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!”
3. Jesus claims absolute truth
Cultural centered Christianity
• Be loving and kind
• Being tolerant
• Ignoring people’s sin
Christ Centered Christianity
• Not afraid to stand for the truth
• Still choosing to be kind and loving
• Realize that following God’s absolute truth is going to offend some people
2 Corinthians 2:14-16
14 But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere. 15 For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. 16 To the one we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life. And who is equal to such a task?
