Last week we began to explore “what God wishes”. A short summary would include Valuing other people, Being selfless and generous, and Learning to place other peoples needs above your own.
What would you think Jesus last prayer would be?
John 17:9-10 “I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. “
Jesus demonstrates the type of relationship He has with God. ALL SHARING.
This is a remarkable statement to make.
- All I have is God’s!
- All God has is mine!
WE WERE CREATED FOR EXTRAORDINARY RELATIONSHIPS
John 17:20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you.”
We were created in God’s image !!
There are 3 dominant theories on what “the image of God” means:
- Intellect and the ability to reason.
- The ability to rule and have dominion over the earth.
- The ability to be in relationship with God.
Let’s look at how the woman was created from the man:
Genesis 2:22 “Then God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man”.
Genesis 2:23 “The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.””
Genesis 2:24 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.”
WE WERE CREATED TO BE IN EXTRAORDINARY RELATIONSHIPS
Key – How do we do this?
John 17:10 “All I have is yours, and all you have is mine”
You must have Access into my life for all that I have to be yours.
I must have Access into your life for all that you have to be mine.
RELATIONSHIPS ARE BETTER WHEN PEOPLE GIVE ONE ANOTHER ACCESS!
- By keeping others away we limit the plan of God!
- Limit our ability to grow.
- Limit our potential.
- Limit our effectiveness.
Why is unity important?
How does Jesus see His salvation spreading across this world?
Through the love and the unity of the church!
“Selfless people with extraordinary relationships”
How would this transform our church?
How would this transform our community?
How would this transform our country?
How would this transform our world?
