Spiritual Gifts

Where are the Spiritual Gifts for the church in America? The church seems to be in decline, lacking in unity, competitive, Spiritually immature, struggling with sin (High divorce rate, sexual addictions, lack of holiness).

Ephesians 4:11-12 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

1 Corinthians 12:8-11 (Other gifts) For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

1. Unity in faith and knowledge. When we work in our gifting we become one. Using your gifting makes the church a whole. It also helps the church know God more. We are called to Unity in the knowledge of the Son of God.

2. Attaining the whole measure of the fullness of God. We are not called to be filled with the fullness of God by ourselves. We can be to independently focused. It is not just “my relationship with Jesus”. Neither should you keep it to yourself. The result of this is a church that is immature and lacking. The church should be a force in America for good. The church should be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. The church should be a desirable place. The church should be a model and an example for the rest of the world. The church should be filled with love and joy.

3. The Church will grow up.  A baby isn’t always to stay a baby. A private is not always to be a private. The result of a mature church is that they are Not influenced by wrong teaching. There is plenty of wrong teaching. This passage talks about it as being “blown back and forth by every wind” of teaching. An immature church does not have the ability to influence others. An immature church wavers in what they are called to be. We should be having an impact instead of being impacted. We should have a Combat mindset versus a Comfort mindset. Are we watching instead of participating? Do we think “Serve us” rather than service? We should Not be influenced by deceitful schemes.  Many times the schemes of people do not have your best interest at heart. The schemes of this world are driven by money. Instead, we as a church need to grow up (Ephesians 4:15). This happens through unity.  This happens through you using your gifting.
