Shocking Statements of Jesus – Children
Matthew 18:1 “At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”
Matthew 18:2-3 “He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said:” I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”
We are accustomed to the concept that our salvation is based upon grace.
Unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
In their culture a child is supposed to honor their parents and the elderly.
- The elderly are highly respected and honored.
- We base our value on productivity.
- In their culture the aged are highly valued.
Matthew 18:4 “Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”
Humility is the key to becoming child like!
HUMILITY IS OF HUGE IMPORTANCE IN GOD’S KINGDOM
Matthew 18:5 “And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.”
KIDS HAVE JUST AS MUCH VALUE AS ADULTS
It is our job to take care of these valuable ones.
Matthew 18:10 “See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.”
The points I want us to walk away with:
- Don’t look down on children.
- Investing in their lives is one of the most important things that we can do.
- Don’t lead them into sin.
