The Bible tells us that when we are praying for forgiveness, the Lord says “though they cry out to me I will not listen (Because of their sinfulness – Jeremiah 11:11)
There are times in our lives when God may not listen to our prayers.
How does that make you feel?
Does it change your mind a little about a loving God?
When you sin against someone you are indebted to them. You owe them something.
All people are deserving of respect.
All people are deserving of kindness.
See James 4: 11, “Brothers, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against his brother or judges him speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it.”
IN THIS PASSAGE
The servant was willing to humble himself and cry out for mercy, but
He was unwilling to give the same mercy that he was shown.
HE WAS WILLING TO RECEIVE FORGIVENESS, BUT NOT WILLING TO GIVE IT.
2. The torturer
This is where the passage gets interesting.
Who is the torturer?
Is the torture eternal?
Is torture God’s will for your life?
In Matthew 18:35, Jesus said, “This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart.”
WE FEEL THE PAIN OF NOT FORGIVING.
How do we handle this pain?
What medicates our pain for an instant? SIN
People turn to unhealthy sexual actions.
People turn to alcohol and other chemicals.
People turn to over eating
People turn to forms of entertainment
