Memorial Day 2011

1. We fight for freedom
John F. Kennedy once said, “Let every nation know. Whether it wishes us well or ill….that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, to assure the survival and the success of LIBERTY!”

God gives man freedom of choice

•        Man can choose to follow Him or not

•        Man can choose to sin or live for righteousness

•        Man can choose who they are going to marry

•        Man can chooses where they are going to spend eternity

What is wrong with our country

The sinful nature that man acts out upon

Sinful nature destroys relationships according to Galatians 5

fits of rage

selfish ambitions

dissensions, factions

2. We remember and honor people

The greatest tragedy of war is the most important resource on the planet – People

•        God has a heart for freedom of choice

•        God has a greater heart for people

2 Timothy 1:3-4 I thank God, whom I serve, as my forefathers did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy.

3. We make memorials

Joshua 4:19-24

We tend to remember the good and tragic events of our life best.

Modern Memorials

•        Crosses on the side of roads

•        War Memorials

•        Historical sites and Markers

We celebrate Memorial day to honor and remember the people who gave for our freedom, but our greatest Memorial is on this wall (The Cross)
