Enemy’s weapon of fear
Weapons have been an important part of our worlds history. But what used to be a “big weapon” may not be as effective today.
The devil has weapons that he regularly uses against us. We have been doing a series on how people use fear to try and control our actions.
You know that weapons can be used to defend, or to create fear. The devil is great with using this weapon!
Now when I say “devil” I am not referring to the devil himself attacking you. More as referring to his demonic forces. And there is another place fear comes from – which is our own mind!
So there are two main weapons the enemy uses:
Effects of constant fear:
- Weakens immune system
- Can cause cardiovascular damage
- Accelerates aging
- Decreased fertility
- Clinical depression
- Damages parts of brain
Fear also messes with our ability to regulate:
- Our Emotions
- Ability to act ethically
- Negatively impacts our decision making
- Makes us susceptible to intense emotions and impulsive reactions
A LIFETIME OF FEAR WILL DRAMATICALLY HINDER AND AFFECT OUR LIVES MAKING US INEFFECTIVE
1 John 4:18 “There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out all fear.”
1 Peter 5:8 “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”
2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
But now, this is what the Lord says—
he who created you, Jacob,
he who formed you, Israel:
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are mine.”
God is actually commanding us to not fear. Why?
- He has our back
- He has redeemed us
Most of our fears fall under the category of perceived fear:
- We think we are in trouble
- We think life is falling apart
- We think we can’t do something
1 Peter 5:6-10 ”Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.”
What do we do if we have allowed fear to cripple parts of our life for a long time?
- Be Humble
- Cast your cares on Jesus
- Resist the temptation of fear
- God will restore you and make you strong
Proverbs 29:25 “Fear of man is a snare, but whoever trusts the Lord is safe”
Psalms 56:34 “When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you”
Psalms 34:4 “I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears”
GOD HAS THE ABILITY TO DELIVER US FROM OUR FEARS
