We have been exploring some of the lesser known miracles that took place the day Jesus was crucified on the cross. First was the darkness that came over the land from noon until 3 pm. Second was the ripping of the curtain that separated the holy place from the holy of holies.
Today we explore the miracle in Matthew 27:52-53: “and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; 53 and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many.”
We will focus on what the text tells us.
The first stage they rose from the dead
The second stage they came into Jerusalem after the resurrection of Jesus.
1. Salvation is linked to the cross
When did he realize that something was up?
When some of those within his grasp slipped out of the grave?
When Jesus arrived in hell to preach to the captives (1 Peter 3:18-20)?
When Jesus rose from the dead?
2. Jesus is the giver of life
We were all dead and without a hope
Because of what He did we have life in our spirit
What does an unspiritual life look like?
With is the important word.
We are made alive with Christ. We are not alive apart from Him.
3. Your faith is not in vain
IT IS NOT A WORK THAT YOU ARE DOING THAT GOES FOR NOTHING.
Fortunately our relationship with Jesus does not just pay off when we die. There are lifelong benefits to walking with Jesus.
Our faith in the cross is not in vain.
